This review is of Hotel Nakshatra and not Nakshatra Grand. Lot of people get confused. Hotel Nakshatra Grand is on the right side if you are coming from railway station side. The 1st image shown on Google maps is Nakshatra Grand and not hotel Nakshatra. This review is about Hotel Nakshatra. This is located exactly in front of Ootacamund club. Havent visited Nakshatra Grand yet. May be in my next visit I will visit and get back to you people with a review. But for now, Hotel Nakshatra it is.
Hotel Nakshatra, Ooty
I had booked a room for 4 adults and a 1 year old through booking.com. They ask for an upfront payment as soon as you enter for all the days you have booked. After making the payment, when I gave him my ID / address proof, there was some guy at the door asking about parking. They gave him the directions & then told me that there has been a double booking. They said the room I had booked cost more and I have been given the room at a lesser price. I acted not to be concerned. He asked me for the confirmation email I have received from them with a pen in his hand. I gave him my phone thinking he would note down the booking ID against my details in the register. After a minute I realized he was doing something. I asked my phone and he said it is not happening and handed over the phone back to me. It is then at that moment that I saw on my phone that he had tried to cancel my booking from my email. Luckily, somehow the cancellation didn’t go through. I asked how can he do that and he said he can and he would do it from his end. I just took everything back to my room and was waiting for him to come and tell me that the booking is cancelled so that I would call up booking.com
I would like to add a small note here. This isn't a fault of Booking.com. They can help you with the booking process which is absolutely flawless when you visit their site. However, they cannot do anything about the behaviour of hotel staff.
Hotel Nakshatra Amenities
In a place like Ooty, they provide hot water for just 2 hours a day. The ventilation is so pathetic that if 4 people and a baby take bath within that time, the steam can’t escape and you can see water drops collected on door, ceiling, walls and the glass wall. The glass that faces the road is dirty. There are 2 latches in the room. 1 for the front door and 1 for the bathroom. Both gets jammed.
Hotel Nakshatra Parking
They have a parking available sign. You have to take a dirty gully behind the place to reach their basement which is so spacious that u can park 4 cars and the space is full. U can imagine one side entry 2 in the front 2 in the back. If u happen to park ur car behind another car and u have to leave while the other car owner has gone site seeing, god bless u.
Hotel Nakshatra Checkout
I have a feeling they play around with the time you have on the day of ur checkout trying to delay so they can charge u for an extra day. 7 to 9 is the timing for hot water. We waited till 7:45 and called him to switch the geyser on. He said yes. We got half bucket of water and then the water stopped. I called him and then he turned on the water. By this time it was 8. They stopped hot water by 8:45. I called multiple times but his number wasn’t reachable. I went to the reception and there was someone else. He said they have switched on the geyser at 6:30. Had to argue for another 10 minutes for him to turn on the geyser and water. We managed to be out 5 mins before the checkout time. Bathroom is kind of clean.
